Blackpool conventionGood News!!! Once again we have been invited to attend Blackpool 2010 (19th - 21st Feb). Building on our phenomenal popularity over the previous few years we will this year try and put out a larger stand to allow for a wider product range (less diving round the back to find things) but still with the same great show prices and unique items. Also this time we hope to have another new freebie but to find out about that you will need to come and say hello on the day. Along with a great new stall format.
5th August 2009

More good news, we have recently acquired the majority of stock from Premium Magic. After some years of serving the professional magic community they have decided to move away from general retail and concentrate their efforts of development and manufacture of some great new item. We will be slowly transferring the stock to us over the next few weeks so look out for some excellent items and prices on top quality products. We are also pleased to announce that as part of the deal we have also gained access to their new product lines for the foreseeable future sop expect some great new stuff on its way starting with "Monte Lite".

The answer is yes, we will be at Blackpool, but no once again we are not allowed to have a Dealer stand, no matter. This year should be a good one with the close-up theme, and if any of you fancy a chat, we will be wandering around in our normal Discount Magic polo shirts.

Magician and entertainers / performers insurance from £25.00 per year1st November 2006
In todays environment nobody can afford the risk of performing without being insured. To you it may be just a quick birthday party down the road, but if it does go wrong it could also be you being sued. On top of this many venues now insist on performers having their own insurance. After discussion with some of our colleagues we have found that entertainers insurance is becoming a real problem especially for the smaller performer, with premiums starting at ?500 and upwards. That is why we have teamed up with Musicians Insurance Services a fully licensed insurance specialist to bring you a special policy which starting from £25.00 per year can cover you for public liability, as well as your equipment, and other associated items. For more details take a look at our Insurance Page.
Christmas shop opens on DiscountMagic.co.uk24th October 2006
After many people contacted us last year for advise on what to by friends, relatives (or in a couple of cases themselves) for Christmas, we have put together our Christmas Present Shop, this is a selection of items from all across the shop starting at only a couple of pounds which are ideal as presents for most types of magician. If you find anything missing, or would like a specific item then you can still contact us and we will try our best to help. Anyway, the shop can be found at http://www.discountmagic.co.uk/index.php/cPath/53.
Magic Circle Dealers Day13th October 2006
Just a quick note this time to confirm that we will be attending the Magic Circle Dealers Day on the 18th of November 2006 at the Royal National Hotel in London. This promises to be a good event, and we hope to see a few of you there. We will be displaying most of our FISM stand for those who missed it, with a few extras for those who saw it.
Sony Ad without sponge balls13th February 2006
We have all seen the somewhat stylish new ad for Sony TVs, the one with the balls bouncing down a San Francisco Street, and most people like myself probably assumed that it was all done with CGI (computers to the uninitiated). That is exactly what we thought until we were approached by Sony to provide UK advertising support. It turns out that Sony used 250,000 real Super Bounce balls, and threw them down a real street (and then picked them all up again we hope?). Anyway back to the advertising, Hopefully in the next few weeks many of you will be receiving through the post a nice surprise from Sony in the shape of three sponge balls accompanying a flyer for the product. The sponges will be standard Goshman 1.5?, and so will make a nice gift to any magician.
FISM 2006 Logo, we will be there10th January 2006
Well after a few weeks of work, and many rumours that seem to be spreading around the forums, we can at last reveal that "Yes it is true. We are going to be exhibiting & selling at FISM 2006 in Stockholm". Hopefully plenty of you will be there, and not be too shy to come up and have a chat. For those of you who dont know FISM is the World Magic Convention, drawing the best of the best from around the globe.
12th December 2005
Just a quick one this time, we have a new friend in the form of www.AboutMagic.co.uk. They are a very good general magic information site, with some brilliant tutorial videos, forum, chat room, and are the official chat location for Radio Magic.
Go Magic Go, a brilliant magicians podcast supported by discount magic.15th November 2005
Hot on the heals of our partnership with "Radio Magic" (see below), comes the news that we are now also supporting "Go Magic Go" (http://www.gomagicgo.com) in America, this is a podcast only radio program for magicians which is made available once per week (Friday GMT) for download. They cover some great stuff with interviews, reviews, and discussions on ethics etc in magic. "Go Magic Go" also produce a beginers podcast once per week, currently working on card magic using the Royal Road to Card Magic - (?9.99 from us). All in all another great service. We are providing the voicemail system for "Go Magic Go" to allow listners to get their message on air.
Radio Magic, a live weekly radio program for magicians featuring (sponsored by) discount magic24th October 2005
Tonight is our BIG night! Discount Magic appears on the radio for the first time! I know that the idea of magic on radio may not appeal to everyone (some may say pointless), but this is no mere appearance. We are now the proud sponsors of the weekly Magic Chart on Radio Magic. This is an hour long program aimed at magicians, and the magic fraternity, which is broadcast on 1134am Kool AM around the South East, along with Telewest in London & Berkshire, via a live web broadcast, or downloadable podcast from www.radiomagic.co.uk, and from www.magicboradcast.com. The show goes out live at 8pm GMT every Monday, so don't forget to tune in, or ?listen again? from the website.
17th-19th June 2005
For those of you attending the Scouts Magical Fun Days at Gilwell park this weekend, we will be there so why not come and say hi. We will be on the Camp Square near to the clock tower.
17th March 2005
Many of you have been asking where our shop is? and now we have one! Today we will be opening our first physical retail outlet at Botany Bay near Chorley in Lancashire (just off the M61). Although small the shop will contain some stock from the website, along with a number of shop only exclusives. For those visiting we can be found on the first floor of the centre.
August 2004
Following an excellent year for DiscountMagic we decided on a staff night out, and what could be more appropriate than a trip to the theater to see "Jus' Like That". An excellent show, and well worth seeing, the timing and delivery of both the magic, and the story are excellent, as was the food (see the photo).

From left to right Sarah (normally the voice on the phone), Jean & Wes (mad dispatchers).

The Royal Mail will be issuing a special set of commemorative stamps to mark The Magic Circles Centenary next year. This is the first time that a magic society has been honoured in such a way, acknowledging The Magic Circles unique standing in the world of magic. The stamps will be issued on February 5th 2005 and will be eagerly snapped up by both philatelists and magicians worldwide. The designs, which have to receive the approval of Her Majesty The Queen, are being kept a closely guarded secret until nearer their release date. John Fisher, The Magic Circles Executive Curator, who first approached The Royal Mail, said, "I am absolutely delighted that the society will be honoured in this way and I am very grateful that The Royal Mail have agreed to mark this important landmark in our history." Alan Shaxon, President of The Magic Circle, said "Since our foundation in 1905 we have strived to both elevate and promote the art of magic in all its forms. This prestigious honour is a reflection of our achievements during the first one hundred years of our existence."

23 Feb 2004
This weekend has seen the 52nd Anual Blackpool Magic Convention, and what a weekend it has been. Once again the convention took over the Winter Gardens complex in the center of Blackpool, with shows, leactures, a 100 stall dealers fair, and over 3500 magicians from around the world. Friday night opened with a 40 stall dealers fair, meanwhile the British Magical Colseup Champonships were underway, and an excellent lecture by Bob Fitch. In his talk Bob covered aspects of not only magic, but also performace, with his background in acting and production well in evidence. Following this was the Friday night show. Saturday saw leactures by among others Fraz Harary, and Rene Lavand followed by the evenings Command Performance which showed off some of the best of British tallent. Sunday was mostly taken up with workshops by the likes of Rene Lavand et al, followed by the big final show. This featured some of the largest comedy, and magic names from countries as far removed as Japan, and the USA. The whole evening culminated in a phenominal performance by Franz Hararay which brough the house down, and finished off an excellent weeked.
