Magi displays five 18″ lengths of rope and counts them from hand to hand. He says the trick he is about to do only requires 4 ropes, so he throws one away. He counts the ropes again, and he still has 5! Must have made a counting error the first time, says Magi, so he throws another one away. He counts again and again… each time magi still has 5 ropes left! These must be magic ropes, says magi, because if I start with five ropes and I throw away one, I should be left with four and he still has 5!
